Toki came into our lives in 2022 after being rescued from the euthanasia list at a shelter in Beaumont, TX. At the time, I was in my second year of running a rescue organization partnered with this shelter, and his condition was dire, his skin infection was severe, his fever spiked to 104°F, and his survival was uncertain. After emergency veterinary care, I brought him home with IV fluids, hoping for the best. Over the following weeks, we tried everything, from fecal transplants and herbal remedies to green tea–infused shampoos, but it became clear that the key to his healing was food. Transitioning him off highly processed dry food and developing a holistic care plan centered around nutrition changed everything.
Because of the complexity of his needs and the deep bond we’d formed, I made the decision to adopt Toki permanently just two months before my beloved Taylor passed. His diagnosis of chronic dermatitis required ongoing management, but through food therapy, herbs, and mushrooms, I’ve learned to care for him at home without constant vet visits.
TAKE A MOMENT AND LET THAT SINK IN. I am able to manage his care at home using food therapy, herbs, and mushrooms.
Now a senior, Toki continues to teach us about resilience, patience, and the healing power of nourishment. Each day with him is a gift, one filled with love, perseverance, and gratitude for the lessons he’s brought into our lives.
